Castle Minova

I went to Ireland recently and the countless castles explored inspired me to paint one.  I tried to imagine what my dream castle in Ireland would be, and then after hours of research and drawing I came up with this.  Which is absolutely nothing like the image I had in my head.  How is it that after so much careful planning, the illustration seems to have an entity all it's own?  I swear the image creates itself, not the other way around.  I'm now at this point where I've been working on it so long, I can not tell what needs to be changed, altered, tweaked, or if I even like it.  Maybe someone could give me some insight :)

I'm totally jealous that you went to IRELAND!! This is a great little piece, I would imagine my dream castle to be a little more rustic. Perhaps surrounded by little gingered haired fellas and the occasional giant in the sky!

hah Neesh I love this! And I know what you mean completely. I sometimes feel like its all a waste to do all that research and sketchingand come up with something nothing like I meant to- but I think it helps regardless and its all part of the process. Perhaps one day we'll actually be able to put what's in our heads to paper. But this is a beautiful illustration :) I hope you dont mind a crit- the patches of brick make it look pocky- theyre very evenly spaced and similarly sized and become very noticeable. But that's just icing on the cute castle cake!
